Artist Bio: Hi, I'm Hannah! I grew up in a small Alaskan community called Kenny Lake. Our house was surrounded by acres upon acres of wilderness, and we lived next to a pond full of frogs, leeches, and buzzing insects. By living in such a secluded location, I was forced to have a wild imagination. Trees were no longer trees, they were stairways leading to hidden kingdoms. The little pond was a great big ocean infested with sharks and whales. My stuffed animals served their role as companions on my adventures through deserts, rainforests, and outer space.
Three years ago, we moved to Anchorage. The change of environment was more shocking than I imagined. At school, I mostly kept to myself. My favorite part of the day was Art class, which inspired me to begin carrying a sketchbook everywhere I went. I began experimenting with different techniques and developing my own style.
I've always been interested in art, but during these past two years, I've realized that it's much more than a hobby. It's become my form of self-expression, kind of like an extension of my mind that's visible for everyone else to see. Art is my favorite type of communication.
I graduated high school this spring. Next August, I'll be attending Delaware College of Art and Design, which will prepare me for building a career out of my life-long passion. My ultimate goal is to do what I love as a full-time job, preferably while I'm living somewhere warm, tropical, and close to the ocean.
